Posted: Tue Nov 08, 2005 2:12 pm Stefan Member   Joined: 19 Apr 2005 Posts: 167 Location: Berlin, Germany Hi Arthur, like for all devices that have external gain controls the safest way is to recalibrate the measurement setup after any of the gains have been changed. However, in particular regarding the Gateway/FireBox we have the advantage that the controls are stepped and relatively well-behaved. Generally, a gain setting is reproducible within 0.25-0.5dB. While more is desirable this is certainly enough for typical room acoustic measurements. Additionally note that the EASERA Gateway does also provide an exact input boost of +12dB. Also, because of its more than 100dB dynamic range, you can easily utilize the EASERA digital output gain for calibrated volume control. As a result we think that this combination is more than sufficient for most types of measurement, especially when looking at the price / performance ratio of the Gateway. I suspect this means EASERA is not kept informed of the angular location of the potentiometer and therefore has no idea what the real gain is. Detents are fine but a pot on a VCA which reports the gain setting to the software makes a lot more sense to me! OK ... I dream again! Best P.J.P. _________________ Peter J. After removal of the knob the shaft only extends about 1/16 of an inch from the front panel.... John Prohs invented some plastic covers that are self sticking that cover the shafts and allow setting a fixed gain and then calibration and the storing and transportation of the Gateway without affecting the settings ....
