I can add the windows using both the displace/duplicate and extrude methods, the problem is they dont coat to the wall surface, I followed the instructions and verified the settings but I get the windows in the middle off the room and not on the wall. You can check it on the face properties. It must also be oriented correctly. It's orange side pointing towards the inside of the room. Also, I'm not sure what you mean with "I get the windows in the middle of the room and not on the wall". Maybe you are a bit confuse regarding the coordinates? I dont know about proper orientation (it is not mentioned on the tutorial , pg 78 of Advanced Modeling techniques).
